Community Service

Sharing our talents with the community.

A cornerstone of the Guild's mission is to contribute quilts to the community. Guild members donate countless hours throughout the year making and finishing quilts to donate and making boutique items to sell. Making a community quilt is a great way to experiment with new patterns or techniques or use up some leftover fabrics. And as we run out of family and friends who need a quilt, our community service allows us do what we love and someone benefits.

March 2020 - April 2021 Donated Quilts

The guild donated 541 quilts from
May 2020 - April 2021
(click to see the organizations to whom we have donated)

You can help our cause by donating fabric, donating in progress or finished projects, purchasing quilts or other items from our Boutique, purchasing raffle tickets to our annual Opportunity quilt raffle or attending our Annual Quilt Show. Donations are welcome (yardage, PIGs, WIP, orphan blocks, etc) should be of good quiltiy, smoke & pet hair free, and cotton or batik fabric. To donate contact the guild at hsqg@hummingbird.com or visit us when we're open.

How we support the community

Quilts

Donated quilts are sized to meet the need of the recipient. Our quilts range from Infant, Crib, Wheelchair, Throw/Lap or Twin. Fabric used on each quilt is tailored to the user.

Boutique

The Boutique funds the rent of our facility. Included for sale in the boutique are jelly rolls, quilts, table runners, craft items, books and more. Items are sold at our Quilt Show, Sewing Room Sales various local craft fairs or by appointment on Thursday mornings at the Guild.

Our Stash

Our stash has over 50 tubs of color and design sorted fabric for quilts. All fabric is donated so it may require creativity. The Guild only buys batting. Fabric is bundled with patterns into kits to be taken home or worked on while at the guild. Our stash team acts as traffic controllers moving quilting projects through the assembly process.

Quilt Documentation

The National Quilt Documentation Project began as an effort to document historic quilts, but now documents quilts of all ages and styles. Information and photos are sent to a database at the University of Michigan. . This effort is free and open to the public.
